QUESTIONS?

The USGS Flatwoods, TN Buffalo River gauge is a helpful tool, but keep in mind it’s located about 10 miles downstream from our office, so local conditions may vary. The Buffalo River is completely free-flowing and unimpounded, fed heavily by springs. This allows the river to drop quickly after rains while maintaining reliable flow even during drought.

300 cfs & Below: Low/Droughty

Trips still run! Guests just need to watch for shallow spots, stay in the main channel, and you may have to occasionally step out to float the boat over shallows. Take the necessities, but don't weight your boat down with unnecessary items

600–800 cfs: The Sweet Spot

This is considered optimal floating for most guests, providing a natural flow that prevents you from having to paddle the entire trip.

900–1000+ cfs: Safety Judgment

At these levels, Crazy Horse uses judgment based on age, experience, and conditions. We may adjust trip availability to ensure everyone's safety.

If you have any questions or concerns, call Crazy Horse directly for a real-time, honest opinion from a team with over 30 years of experience on this stretch of river.
